Trade Tensions

May 23, 2019 | Market Commentary

Friends

Stocks tumbled today as tensions heightened over the trade war situation developing with China. Market participants have been hesitant to buy over the past several weeks, and the developing clouds continue to darken.

The market did recover some from its lows, but for the day the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 286 points to finish the day at 25,490. The S&P 500 was down 34 points to close at 2,822. Gold was up $9 to trade at $1,283 per ounce, while oil was down $3.44 to trade at $57.98 per barrel WTI.

As we head into the dog days of summer the headwinds, as we mentioned yesterday, are many. Are the bears feeling a little more emboldened? Let’s see how the week finishes out tomorrow.

Have a nice evening everyone.
