Tesla Steals Headlines

Aug 7, 2018 | Market Commentary

Friends

This afternoon’s tweet from Elon Musk that he had a deal in place for the purchase of Tesla (assumingly taking it private), sent market participants into a frenzy and pretty much occupied the business news media all afternoon. Stocks advanced early in the trading session and held most of the gains into the close.

For the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 126 points to close at 25,628. The S&P 500 was up 8 points to finish the day at 2,858. Gold was up $1 to trade at $1,218 per ounce, while oil was up $.02 to trade at $69.03 per barrel WTI.

Again, the Tesla potential deal dominated the news this afternoon, so we’ll just have to see how all this affects the markets tomorrow. We are getting Disney’s earnings after the close today; but that news will be lost in the Tesla craziness. Stay tuned.

Have a nice evening everyone.
