Traders spent the day with one eye on the television as the President was speaking at a cabinet meeting and then this afternoon at a press conference to announce his tariffs. Stocks looked pretty much confused by all the rhetoric with the market averages waffling between gain and loss. But at the close the buyers stepped in and stocks pushed higher.
By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 93 points to finish the day at 24,895. The S&P 500 was up 12 points to close at 2,738. Gold was down $5 to trade at $1,322, while oil was down $.89 to trade at $60.22 per barrel WTI.
Tomorrow, we get the jobs report and all eyes will be on the average hourly wage number. It’s expected that about 205,000 new jobs were created in February and that wages rose .2% month over month. Let’s see how the jobs report plays and how the market finishes the week. We’ll let you know.
Have a nice evening everyone.
