Stocks Tumble Then Recover

Oct 13, 2016 | Market Commentary

Friends

As we have mentioned lately, volatility is definitely back. Stocks plummeted right from the opening this morning, culminating in a 184 point Dow loss, before the bulls stepped in and did some buying. By the close, stocks had recovered to eliminate most of the early gains, as important technical levels seemed to hold.

For the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 45 points to close at 18,098. The S&P 500 was down 6 points to finish the day at 2,132. Gold was up $5 to trade at $1,259 per ounce, while oil was up $.29 to trade at $50.47 per barrel WTI.

Tomorrow we get earnings from a couple of money center banks, and then we really get the earnings train rolling next week. In the meantime, let’s see how the week finishes up tomorrow.

Have a nice evening everyone.
