Stocks Stall

Dec 29, 2020 | Market Commentary

Friends

Things started off well, with stocks breaking to new highs in early morning trading. But, as the day wore on things began to unravel just a bit and sellers began to take some well-deserved profits. So, for a day anyway the Santa Clause rally was derailed.

By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 68 points to finish the day at 30,335. The S&P 500 was down 8 points to close at 3,727. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 49 points to close at 12,850. Gold was up $2 to trade at $1,883 per ounce, while oil was up $.35 to trade at $47.97 per barrel WTI.

It sure feels like everyone is just trying to get this year to the finish line without any damage to the gains that have been racked up year to date. After the 38% drop we saw in February and March, to have an up year seems almost unbelievable. 2 more days to go. Stay tuned.

Have a nice evening everyone.
