Stocks Soft As Big Earnings Reports Loom

Jan 26, 2021 | Market Commentary

Friends

It was another day of decent earnings reports but muted stock response. After the close today we are going to hear from Microsoft and others, and later in the week Facebook and Apple, so we will get a good idea how accurately priced the big tech names are.

As for today, by the close the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 22 points to finish the day at 30,937. The S&P 500 was down 5 points to close at 3,849. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 9 points to close at 13,626. Gold was down $5 to trade at $1,849 per ounce, while oil was down $.27 to trade at $52.50 per barrel WTI.

It should be an interesting rest of the week for earnings. We’ll keep an eye on things and let you know how it all plays out.

Have a nice evening everyone.
