Stocks Slump to Start The Week

Stocks had a difficult start to the week except for some of the big name growth/tech companies. While Apple was making new highs and Google, Amazon and Facebook were also posting gains, industrials, materials and consumer staples all saw selling pressure.

By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 268 points to finish the day at 35,100. The S&P 500 was down 15 points to close at 4,520. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 10 points to close at 15,374. Gold was down $37 to trade at $1,796 per ounce, while oil was down $.91 to trade at $68.38 per barrel WTI.

It certainly was a trading session with distinct winners and losers. Having said that it is really difficult to determine any real sustainable pattern from recent market action. We’ve seen such discrepancies from day to day. But, there are a handful of names that continue to do well regardless of the day’s narrative. Actually, that’s a pattern.

Have a nice evening everyone.
