Stocks Remain Resilient

Friends

The Dow spent the entire trading session in negative territory (weighed down by IBM), but almost made it back to break even by the close. The S&P and Nasdaq on the other hand were able to post gains for the day. Market participants are monitoring the news out of Congress waiting to see if some agreement will emerge by the weekend. We won’t hold our breath.

Anyway, by the close the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 6 points to finish the day at 35,603. The S&P 500 was up 13 points to close at 4,549. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 94 points to close at 15,215. Gold was up a fraction to trade at $1,785 per ounce, while oil was down $.79 to trade at $82.63 per barrel WTI.

Despite Big Blue’s difficulties, earnings continue to be surprisingly good. But, we have a long way to go and many of the major corporations are reporting next week. We’ll list some to look for tomorrow. In the meantime, let’s see how the week finishes up tomorrow.

Have a nice evening everyone.
