As leaders around the world meet at the White House, market participants will also be monitoring earnings releases from the some of the country’s largest retailers this week including Walmart, Target, TJX, Home Depot, and Lowes. It will be interesting to see what these retailers have to say about the effects of tariffs on the consumer and on their own bottom lines. Then of course, at the end of the week we will hear from the Fed Chair and his speech at the Jackson Hole conference.
In the meantime, the markets were very quiet today. By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 34 points to finish the day at 44,911. The S&P 500 was down a fraction to close at 6,449. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 6 points to close at 21,629. Gold was down $5 to trade at $3,377 per ounce, while oil was up $.47 to trade at $63.27 per barrel WTI.
It should be a very interesting week, and we’ll try to keep you up to date on all of the proceedings as the week unfolds.
Have a nice evening everyone.
