Stocks Mostly Unchanged After Lower Open

Oct 22, 2024 | Market Commentary

Friends

Stocks were lower in early trading but recovered nicely as the trading session wore on with the market indexes just slightly lower by the close. Interest rates moving higher are still a concern, but the economy continues to be resilient helping to maintain a positive environment for stocks. We are likely to still see some choppiness especially on the individual stock basis over the next couple of weeks, but it is amazing to see dips are bought almost immediately.

By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 6 points to finish the day at 42,924. The S&P 500 was down 2 points to close at 5,851. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 33 points to close at 18,573. Gold was up $21 to trade at $2,760 per ounce, while oil was up $1.68 to trade at $72.24 per barrel WTI.

Let’s see if we get a choppy pattern between now and the election or instead will either the bulls or the bears gain control of the situation. Stay tuned.

Have a nice evening everyone.
