Despite concerns over the virus continuing to blow up across America, and threats of more shutdowns, stocks had a very good day. Today’s advance was a little more broad based with strange bed fellows consumer staples and industrials enjoying good days. Actually all sectors participated in varying degrees.
By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 399 points to finish the day at 29,479. The S&P 500 was up 48 points to close at 3,585. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 119 points to close at 11,829. Gold was up $12 to trade at $1,885 per ounce, while oil was down $.98 to trade at $40.14 per barrel WTI.
It was quite a week for stocks. Pfizer’s vaccine news got things off to a rip roaring start and despite some profit taking during the week, stocks were able to remain strong overall. Now, if you need me I’ll be parked in front of my television watching my favorite golf tournament, The Masters, this weekend. Looks like it could be a fun finish.
Have a great weekend everyone.
