Stocks traded higher at the open of trading this morning and basically did nothing the rest of the day. JP Morgan Chase announced good earnings early before trading began, but it didn’t seem to help the beleaguered financial sector. Once again it was Amazon, Google and gang and selected retailers leading the way, but for the most part it was a quiet day of trading.
By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 94 points to finish the day at 25,019. The S&P 500 was up 3 points to close at 2,801. Gold was down $4 to trade at $1,241 per ounce, while oil was up $.42 to trade at $70.75 per barrel WTI.
Next week will be chock full of earnings reports including Bank of America, Netflix, Goldman Sachs, Johnson & Johnson, EBAY, Morgan Stanley, Travelers, Microsoft, Union Pacific, Nucor, General Electric, Honeywell and Schlumberger. Let’s see if corporate earnings are as good as most anticipate. Stay tuned.
Have a great weekend everyone.
