The bulls tried to gather the troops throughout the day, but in the end they just couldn’t muster any real buying interest. There wasn’t any real news that would trigger a big move either way, and in the end things just drifted into the close.
For the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 81 points to close at 34,312. The S&P 500 was down 8 points to finish the day at 4,188. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 4 points to close at 13,657. Gold was up $16 to trade at $1,900 per ounce, while oil was down $.17 to trade at $65.88 per barrel WTI.
I mentioned recently that a bit of running in place wouldn’t be a bad thing for the markets. It can give investors a chance to catch their breath and consider what lies ahead in the second half of the year. Stay tuned.
Have a nice evening everyone.
