Stocks Drift Lower In Quiet Session

May 20, 2025 | Market Commentary

Friends

Stocks struggled to gain any traction throughout the trading session and drifted lower by the close. There were no market moving headlines for traders to sink their teeth into as it is a slow week for economic data.

By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 114 points to finish the day at 42,677. The S&P 500 was down 23 points to close at 5,940. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 72 points to close at 19,142. Gold was up $62 to trade at $3,295 per ounce, while oil was down $.07 to trade at $62.62 per barrel WTI.

Again, aside from the big, beautiful bill attempting to get through Congress, market participants appear to be settling in for a quiet week. Of course, as we know things can change quickly. Stay tuned.

Have a nice evening everyone.
