Stocks Continue To Grind Higher

May 18, 2023 | Market Commentary

Friends

The bears continue to try to push stocks lower, but the bulls have been able to defend the high ground and keep stocks grinding higher. We got a look a Walmart’s earnings this morning, and they were pretty darn good. All of the big retailers survived what many thought was going to be a difficult week for them.

For the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 115 points to close at 33,535. The S&P 500 was up 39 points to finish the day at 4,198. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 188 points to close at 12,688. Gold was down $24 to trade at $1,960 per ounce, while oil was down $.82 to trade at $72.07 per barrel WTI.

The bears have had all the narratives in 2023 so far, but they have had little of the performance. Let’s see how the week finishes out tomorrow.

Have a nice evening everyone.
