Stocks Continue Higher Into Year-End

Dec 27, 2023 | Market Commentary

Friends

Again, as expected, it was a very quiet day of trading. The bulls appear to be a little out of gas (though the Dow did rally late) and the bears remain quite uninspired. Stocks basically did nothing all day and on the economic news front there was little to talk about.

For the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 111 points to finish the day at 37,656. The S&P 500 was up 6 points to close at 4,781. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 24 points to close at 15,099. Gold was up $19 to trade at $2,088 per ounce, while oil was down $1.59 to $73.98 per barrel WTI.

Of course, at any moment this quiet drift into yearend could be interrupted by a rogue algorithmic trading program, but it does not appear that there will be any news driven action before we finish the year on Friday. We’ll let you know if anything interesting happens.

Have a nice evening everyone.
