Stocks were mostly quiet today other than shares of Disney (a member of the Dow Jones Industrial Average) which suffered from an early earnings warning. Other than that everyone seems focused on just where Hurricane Irma will hit and what kind of damage could occur along the east coast.
For the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 22 points to close at 21,784. The S&P 500 was down less than a point to finish the day at 2,465. Gold was up $14 to trade at $1,353 per ounce, while oil was down $.02 to trade at $49.13 per barrel WTI.
Neither the bulls nor the bears seem to have any claim on the direction of the market at this point. Sure, there are things to worry about, and seasonally September has been difficult for stocks in the past, but for the moment there does not seem to be a catalyst to move the markets in either direction. Of course, that could change at any moment.
