So Much For Cooling Off

Oct 16, 2024 | Market Commentary

Friends

Well, so much for my wish that the stock market would cool off a little. The market averages pushed higher today as the bulls continue to buy any weakness that they see. Even the possibility of a lackluster earnings season doesn’t seem to be a deterrent at the moment.

For the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 337 points to close at 43,077. The S&P 500 was up 27 points to finish the day at 5,842. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 51 points to close at 18,367. Gold was up $11 to trade at $2,690 per ounce, while oil was down $.06 to trade at $70.52 per barrel WTI.

On the earnings front, the financials have had good results, and many companies have seen their shares rise as a result. Most of the big names will be reporting over the coming few weeks so we are just getting started with regards to this earnings season. If there is going to be any disruption before the election, it would seem to come from earnings disappointments. So far, that has not been the case. Stay tuned.

Have a nice evening everyone.
