Once again stocks were very quiet as investors wait for the inflation numbers tomorrow and Thursday. Also, the hand wringing over the debt ceiling and threatened default of U. S. Government debt continues to grab headlines. But for now, market participants are content to just sit on their hands and wait.
As for today, by the close the Dow Jones Industrial Averages was down 56 points to finish the day at 33,561. The S&P 500 was down 18 points to close at 4,119. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 77 points to close at 12,179. Gold was up $8 to trade at $2,042 per ounce, while oil was up $.37 to trade at $73.53 per barrel WTI.
Let’s see what the inflation numbers look like first, then we’ll have time to fret over the debt ceiling debacle in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.
Have a nice evening everyone.
