The bull/bear tug of war continues as stocks drifted within a very narrow range today. After a better-than-expected earnings season (although we will get a look at retail earnings this week), and decent inflation numbers market participant will be mostly focused on the debt ceiling wrestling match that will play out over the coming days and weeks.
As for today, by the close the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 47 points to close at 33,348. The S&P 500 was up 12 points to close at 4,136. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 80 points to close at 12,365. Gold was up $1 to trade at $2,020 per ounce, while oil was up $1.33 to trade at $71.37 per barrel WTI.
As mentioned, we will get a look at how retailers are doing this week with earnings releases form Home Depot, TJX, Target, and Walmart to name a few. Let’s see how this week unfolds. Stay tuned.
