Moving Quietly Towards Year End

Dec 29, 2021 | Market Commentary

Friends

Though somewhat tepid, the Santa Claus rally continues as we grow closer to year end. Today we saw some of the ‘boring’ consumer staples, utilities, materials and healthcare names lead the market slightly higher. In addition, we are finally seeing bond yields move back up just a bit.

As for today, by the close the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 90 points to finish the day at 36,488. The S&P 500 was up 6 points to close at 4,793. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 15 points to close at 15,766. Gold was down $5 to trade at $1,805 per ounce, while oil was up $.48 to trade at $76.46 per barrel WTI.

Just two more trading days remain for 2021. Let’s see if the bulls can hold onto the high ground as we close out the year.

Have a nice evening everyone.
