Headlines and Earnings Worries Send Stocks Lower

May 28, 2025 | Market Commentary

Friends

Stocks were mostly quiet today until a report this afternoon that The White House told chip design software makers to stop selling into China. That with nervousness about Nvidia’s earnings after the close today put a damper on any buying enthusiasm.

By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 244 points to finish the day at 42,098. The S&P 500 was down 32 points to close at 5,888. The Nasdaq Composite was down 98 points to close at 19,100. Gold was down $8 to trade at $3,292 per ounce, while oil was up $.62 to trade at $61.51 per barrel WTI.

As mentioned, we will get Nvidia’s earnings after the close today along with tech software giant Salesforce. These will set the tone for tomorrow’s opening unless another unexpected headline hits the tape. Stay tuned.

Have a nice evening everyone.
