Happy New Year!

Dec 31, 2015 | Market Commentary

Friends

Again, another quiet day on this last day of trading for 2015, and yet again another day where the bulls never showed up. Stocks spent the day drifting lower and lower and lower into negative territory, so much so that the market averages as measured by the S&P and the Dow ended down for the year. Stocks, bonds, and commodities all suffered losses in 2015.

As for today, by the close the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 179 points to finish the day at 17,424. The S&P 500 was down 19 points to close at 2043. Gold was down a fraction to trade at $1059 per ounce, while oil was up $.36 to trade at $36.97 per barrel WTI.

We’ll discuss the year end numbers in detail next week, but we’ll just say that it was a difficult year for market participants, especially here in Houston, where a drop in oil prices of another 30% after last year’s fall was especially painful. We’ll be back at it on Monday and ready for 2016. In the meantime…

Happy New Year everyone. Enjoy and be safe.
