Good Jobs Number But Stocks Drift

Dec 6, 2017 | Market Commentary

Friends

It was a quiet day of trading with stocks basically hugging the break-even line for most of the trading session. The ADP private payroll number was good, which tees us up for Friday’s non-farm payroll number. Nevertheless, neither the bulls nor the bears seamed very interested in today’s proceedings.

By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 39 points to finish the day at 21,140. The S&P 500 was down a fraction to close at 2629. Gold was up $1 to trade at $1,266 per ounce, while oil was down $1.71 to trade at $55.91 per barrel WTI.

Are the last few trading sessions a pause that refreshes the bulls and sends them charging into a year-end Santa Clause type rally? Perhaps, or maybe we are just running out of gas. Let’s see how the rest of this week finishes out first.

Have nice evening everyone.
