Earnings season is upon us. We had a couple more banks report today, Citi and Goldman Sachs, the latter coming up a bit shy of expectations and contributing to the weakness in the Dow today. But as the week rolls on we’ll hear from J&J, Pepsico, IBM, Bank of America, United Healthcare, Morgan Stanley, Abbot Labs, Schlumberger, Honeywell, American Express, and Union Pacific – just to mention a few.
As for today, stocks spent most of the trading session in negative territory, but the losses were minimized by the close. For the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 27 points to finish the day at 26,384. The S&P 500 was down 1 point to close at 2,905. Gold was down $4 to trade at $1,291 per ounce, while oil was down $.38 to trade at $63.51 per barrel WTI.
Remember, this is a shortened week of trading with Good Friday being a day that the markets are closed. And as we enter Easter week it is unbelievably sad to see the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris burning to the ground. Centuries of history just gone in an instant. I am truly sad.
Try to have a nice evening everyone.
