Difficult Headlines

Oct 1, 2024 | Market Commentary

Friends

It was a very difficult day of headlines for the markets to grapple with. Iran was firing ballistic missiles at Israel and on the domestic front we have dock workers going on strike (a potentially inflationary occurrence). The market averages were not able to weather that storm, and stocks struggled throughout the trading session.

For the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 173 points to close at 42,156. The S&P 500 was down 53 points to finish the day at 5,708. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 278 points to close at 17,910. Gold was up $21 to trade at $2,680 per ounce, while oil was up $2.40 to trade at $70.57 per barrel WTI.

Kind of a rough start to the new quarter but given the circumstances very understandable.

Have a nice evening everyone.
