Bulls Squeak Out Another Gain

Friends

Stocks added to their winning streak, but like Friday it was in less than convincing fashion. With no damaging headlines to deal with, stocks advanced at the open, with the Dow sporting a more than 100 point advance. But, the rest of the day saw the market averages just trying to stay in positive territory.

By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 68 points to finish the day at 24,899. The S&P 500 was up 2 points to close at 2,730. Gold was down $6 to trade at $1,314 per ounce, while oil was up $.43 to trade at $71.13 per barrel WTI.

As mentioned last week, we will see earnings from retailers this week including the likes of Walmart, Macy’s, Nordstrom, Home Depot and J.C. Penney. On the economic data front we get the retail sales and business inventories numbers tomorrow, housing starts and industrial production on Wednesday, and leading indicators on Thursday. The bulls still have the upper hand, but look like they might be running out of gas in the short term. We’ll let you know how the week plays out.

Have a nice evening everyone. Go Rockets!
