It was another quiet day for stocks and the results were somewhat mixed with a slightly negative bias. Tesla has good earnings but its strong showing still wasn’t enough to push the Nasdaq into positive territory. Consumer staples led by Clorox had a good day, but there weren’t many other winners.
By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 9 points to finish the day at 22,026. The S&P 500 was down 5 points to close at 2,472. Gold was down $2 to trade at $1,276 per ounce, while oil was down $.66 to trade at $48.93 per barrel WTI.
Remember, we get the non-farm payroll number tomorrow and the expectations are for it to come in at around 187,000 new jobs created in July. It sure feels like the dog days of summer as the S&P 500 has barely moved for weeks now. The good news for the bulls is that quiet is sure better than a summer selloff. Let’s see how tomorrow’s jobs report plays with market participants.
Have a nice evening everyone.
