Stocks stemmed an early morning selloff, reversed course mid-morning and spent the rest of the day modestly in positive territory. 9/11 is a solemn day every year, and today was no exception. Everything seemed to stand virtually still for several hours, before we had a little movement in the last hour of trading.
For the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 113 points to close at 25,971. The S&P 500 was up 10 points to close at 2,887. Gold was up $1 to trade at $1,201 per ounce, while oil was up $1.90 to trade at $69.44 per barrel WTI.
9/11 is a day that is very emotional for many people and has always been for me. Though I didn’t lose anyone that I personally knew, so many folks in the investment industry lost their lives that day, as did so many brave first responders. If you get a chance to see the 9/11 memorial and Freedom Tower in New York City at the site where the Twin Towers stood, it is definitely worth your time. It is unbelievably emotional to read through all the names of those who passed so many just trying to save the lives of others. We will never forget.
Have a nice evening everyone.
