Today was just the opposite of the last two days. Stocks got off to a good start and basically held the gains for the entire session. After yesterday afternoon’s decent earnings release by Alcoa, traders seemed to be in a little better frame of mind. I suspect that as the earnings releases multiply, volatility will pick up.
For the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 61 points to close at 13,390. The S&P 500 was up 3 points to finish the day at 1461. Gold was down $5 to trade at $1657 per ounce, while oil was mostly unchanged to trade at $93.15 per barrel WTI.
So far this week trading has been light and uneventful. I suspect as earnings season kicks into gear that will change, and of course we have the continuing political battles ahead of us. We’ll keep you updated as the earnings season unfurls.
Have a nice evening everyone.
