Stocks Sloppy Again

Jul 8, 2025 | Market Commentary

Friends

It was another sloppy day for stocks as hand wringing over the effects of tariffs continues to be the dominant theme of the week so far. Again, stocks were probably looking for a reason to cool off a bit and this week’s tariff headlines have given profit takers cover to sell.

By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 165 points to finish the day at 44,240. The S&P 500 was down 4 points to close at 6,225. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 5 points to close at 20,418. Gold was down $29 points to trade at $3,313 per ounce, while oil was up $.54 to trade at $68.47 per barrel WTI.

It is becoming more difficult to find a catalyst to move stocks higher at the moment. Perhaps we will have a rip-roaring earnings season which will light a fire under buyers. We will see. Stay tuned.

Have a nice evening everyone.
