Stocks Up Before Tariff Speach

Apr 2, 2025 | Market Commentary

Friends

We are going to hear the President’s plans for tariffs this afternoon, but before that we had an ADP private payroll number this morning and the employment picture remains strong with 155,000 payrolls added vs the 120,000 expected. Stocks began the day in negative territory but recovered and moved nicely into positive territory by the close.

For the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 235 points to finish the day at 42,225. The S&P 500 was up 37 points to close at 5,670. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 151 points to close at 17,601. Gold was up $20 to trade at $3,166 per ounce, while oil was up $.59 to trade at $71.79 per barrel WTI.

Again, are the tariffs already accounted for with regards to the markets? We are going to find out now as we discover the details this afternoon. Stay tuned, it should be an interesting rest of the week.

Have a nice evening everyone.

Jim
