Stocks Higher As Voters Cast Their Votes

Nov 5, 2024 | Market Commentary

Friends

Stocks traded higher throughout the trading session. You can read into that whatever you like. The narratives are flying today but I think it is probably best just to wait and see how the election plays out not to mention the Fed decision on interest rates on Thursday.

As for today, by the close the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 427 points to finish the day at 42,221. The S&P 500 was up 70 points to close at 5,782. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 259 points to close at 18,439. Gold was up $4 to trade at $2,750 per ounce, while oil was up $.56 to trade at $72.03 per barrel WTI.

There is a probability that we will not have a winner declared tonight so it might just be that market participants are going to have to have some patience until the political theater all plays out. We’ll let you know what the market reactions are tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Have a nice evening everyone.

Jim
