Stocks Move Higher as Quarter Ends

The bulls were back at it today as stocks moved higher at the opening bell, and were able to hold onto those gains throughout the trading session. On the economic front weekly jobless claims fell more than expected (which is good) and durable orders came in unchanged which was better than expected. Finally, our last look at 2nd quarter GDP was unrevised holding at a pretty strong 3% growth. Some had worried that number would be revised lower. It was not. So, the economic picture looked pretty good today.

By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 260 points to finish the day at 42,175. The S&P 500 was up 23 points to close at 5,745. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 108 points to close at 18,190. Gold was up $10 to trade at $2,695 per ounce, while oil was down $2.38 to trade at $67.31 per barrel WTI.

Just two trading days left in the quarter. Let’s see how the week finishes out tomorrow.

Have a nice evening everyone.
