Stocks Up Quietly

Sep 23, 2024 | Market Commentary

Friends,

It was a quiet day of trading with a slightly upward tilt. Market participants will be focusing on economic data in the coming weeks, looking to determine if a soft landing is indeed in the cards. It would be just fine if the market averages took a pause that would hopefully refresh right now. A little cooling off might not be a bad thing.

Anyway, for the day the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 61 points to close at 42,124. The S&P 500 was up 16 points to finish the day at 5,718. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 25 points to close at 17,974. Gold was up $6 to trade at $2,652 per ounce, while oil was down $.50 to trade at $70.50 per barrel WTI.

The quarter closes a week from today, but basically this is the final week of trading. We’ll see if the bulls can keep the momentum as the quarter end plays out. Stay tuned.

Have a nice evening everyone.
