Quiet Start To A Busy Earnings Week

Jul 29, 2024 | Market Commentary

Friends

Stocks got off to a somewhat quiet start to what should be a busy week with regards to corporate earnings. Big names like Meta, Amazon, Apple and Microsoft all report this week and as we know the shares of these super star companies have seen a lot of selling over the past few weeks. Is the set up now better for these names? We will find out soon enough.

In the meantime, for the day the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 49 points to close at 40,539. The S&P 500 was up 4 points to finish the day at 5,463. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 12 points to close at 17,370. Gold was up $1 to trade at $2,382 per ounce, while oil was down $1.27 to trade at $75.89 per barrel WTI.

It still appears that the mega cap stars will need to hit it out of the park to see positive share reactions in their stocks. But as we mentioned, those stocks have retreated recently so some of the fluff might already be out of the share prices. Let’s see how the week plays out. Stay tuned.

Have a nice evening everyone.
