Stocks Finish Week Higher

May 17, 2024 | Market Commentary

Friends

The bulls were able to move stocks slightly higher once again today as we finish the week on a high note. Of course, many of us here in the Houston area are struggling with power loss or worse after a powerful storm swept through the area last night. Let’s just look at the numbers.

For the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 134 points to close at 40,003. The S&P 500 was up 6 points to finish they day at 5,303. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 12 points to close at 16,685. Gold was up $35 to trade at $2,420 per ounce, while oil was up $.79 to trade at $80.02 per barrel WTI.

I hope everyone is safe and if you don’t have power, like many of us, you get it back soon.

Try to have a nice weekend everyone.
