Not A Great Start to Earnings Season

Stocks struggled today as the first small wave of earnings kind of flopped. The banks, as usual reported complicated/mixed results and the share price reactions were complicated as well. United Healthcare and Delta both bombed too. The PPI number came in softer than expected casting doubt on yesterday’s hotter CPI number as possibly a one-off. Nevertheless, stocks mainly struggled/did little throughout the trading session.

For the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 118 points to close at 37,592. The S&P 500 was up 3 points to finish the day at 4,783. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 2 points to close at 14,972. Gold was up $32 to trade at $2,051 per ounce, while oil was up $.78 to trade at $72.80 per barrel WTI.

Remember, the markets are closed on Monday for the Martin Luther King holiday. We will be back with you on Tuesday. Buckle up, earnings season will be in full force over the next few weeks. Stay tuned.

Have a great weekend everyone and stay warm.
