Stocks Higher Before CPI Report

Jan 10, 2024 | Market Commentary

Friends

Stocks were able to post modest gains ahead of the Consumer Price Index releases tomorrow morning. Then, remember we have the real start to earnings season on Friday, as well as the Producer Price Index release. It should be an interesting couple of days to end the week.

As for today, by the close the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 170 points to finish the day at 37,695. The S&P 500 was up 26 points to close at 4,783. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 111 points to close at 14,969. Gold was down $4 to trade at $2,028 per ounce, while oil was down $.93 to trade at $71.31 per barrel WTI.

We have seen inflation moderating for some time now. Will tomorrow’s CPI number confirm that we are still on the right track? Stay tuned, we will let you know how it all plays out.

Have a nice evening everyone.
