Stocks Take A Breather

Feb 8, 2023 | Market Commentary

Friends

The bulls were not able to follow through on yesterday’s gains as stocks spent most of the trading session in negative territory. With no real catalyst, there just didn’t seem that market participants had much interest in today’s proceedings. Maybe a little breather after the robust start to the year for stocks would be healthy at this moment.

By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 207 points to finish the day at 33,949. The S&P 500 was down 46 points to close at 4,117. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 203 points to close at 11,910. Gold was up $2 to trade at $1,886 per ounce, while oil was up $1.32 to trade at $78.46 per barrel WTI.

We will get a look at Disney’s earnings after the close today which will be interesting given the recent leadership changes at the company. Whether it’s a market mover at this point is doubtful. Let’s see how things play out the rest of the week.

Have a nice evening everyone.
