It was a pretty good start to the week for stocks, as there were no real market moving headlines to deal with. The biggest winner of the market averages was the Nasdaq as the big-name growth stocks- Apple, Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and the rest all moved higher. It appears that the mega cap quality growth names are where market participants feel most comfortable and secure at the moment.
For the day, by the close the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 103 points to finish the day at 34,921. The S&P 500 was up 36 points to close at 4,582. The aforementioned Nasdaq Composite Index was up 271 points to close at 14,532. Gold was up $11 to trade at $1,934 per ounce, while oil was up $4.25 to trade at $103.52 per barrel WTI.
Trading has certainly gotten quieter in recent trading sessions as much of the intraday volatility has waned. Perhaps it’s just a calming before the next storm, or maybe it’s just an acceptance of the environment (headwinds) that investors are dealing with. Of course, time will tell.
Have a nice evening everyone.
