Stocks Retreat After 3 Day Run

Dec 9, 2021 | Market Commentary

Friends

It was a mixed day of trading with the Nasdaq coming under some selling pressure (down 1.71%) while the Dow was able to hold serve. On the economic front we got a weekly jobless claims number that was the best we have seen in over 50 years. But mainly it was a somewhat quiet news day and investor interest in stocks cooled a bit.

For the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was basically flat closing at 35,754. The S&P 500 was down 33 points to finish the day at 4,667. The Nasdaq was down 269 points to close at 15,517. Gold was down $9 to trade at $1,776 per ounce, while oil was down $1.75 to trade at $70.61 per barrel WTI.

Despite today’s setback in the Nasdaq, it’s been a pretty good week for the bulls but it’s not over yet. Market participants will be very interested in the CPI number which will be released tomorrow morning. Let’s see how the week finishes off tomorrow.

Have a nice evening everyone.
