Stocks Tentatively Inch Higher as Earnings Impress

Oct 26, 2021 | Market Commentary

Friends

Stocks continue to be buoyed by good earnings numbers as the majority of companies that have reported in the past couple of weeks are beating expectations. We’ll get numbers from a couple of big names after the close today, Alphabet (Google) and Microsoft which might set the tone for tomorrow’s trading action.

As for today, by the close the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 15 points to finish the day at 35,756. The S&P 500 was up 8 points to close at 4,574. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 9 points to close at 15,235. Gold was down $11 to trade at $1,795 per ounce, while oil was up $.87 to trade at $84.63 per barrel WTI.

As mentioned, most firms are beating earnings expectations and many had seen their share price slump as earnings season approached. The large cap growth names on the other hand have seen their shares hold the fort as earnings season approached. Facebook has its own separate issues, but their shares did not respond well to last night’s release. Let’s see how things look after the close today and before tomorrow’s opening. Stay tuned.

Have a nice evening everyone.
