Stocks Drift Higher

Aug 24, 2021 | Market Commentary

Friends

Stocks modestly added to yesterday’s gains as trading was somewhat quiet on this second trading session of the week. One big earnings win was delivered by Best Buy. The electronics big box store had a great quarter which sent its stock soaring. But, for the most part things were relatively quiet today.

By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 30 points to finish the day at 35,366. The S&P 500 was up 6 points to close at 4,486. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 77 points to close at 15,019. Gold was down $1 to trade at $1,805 per ounce, while oil was up $2 to trade at $67.64.

Despite Covid causing much consternation the markets appear to be continuing to look past the present and assume that we will get through this spike and resume the great reopening. Let’s hope.

Have a nice evening everyone.
