Good Earnings Left Unrewarded

Friends

It was another day of trading with mixed results. Today the Dow was able to spend most of the day in positive territory, but the tech heavy Nasdaq was under selling pressure the entire trading session. Breadth was decidedly negative indicating once again the leadership is narrowing and actually quite inconsistent.

By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 53 points to finish the day at 34,987. The S&P 500 was down 14 points to close at 4,360. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 101 points to close at 14,543. Gold was up $4 to trade at $1,829 per ounce, while oil was down $1.54 to trade at $71.59 per barrel WTI.

It’s early in this earnings season, but the big banks delivered great numbers (though their stocks sold off). Let’s see how things finish up for the week before we look into next week’s earnings calendar.

Have a nice evening everyone.
