As traders gear up for earnings season, stocks had a mildly bullish session with the market averages posting modest gains. As usual the first week of earnings season is filled with reports from banks including J P Morgan Chase and Goldman Sachs tomorrow, with Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Citi on Wednesday. We will, though, see Pepsi tomorrow and Delta Airlines later in the week.
As for today, by the close the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 126 points to finish the day at 34,996. The S&P 500 was up 15 points to close at 4,384. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 31 points to close at 14,733. Gold was down $4 to trade at $1,806 per ounce, while oil was down $.41 to trade at $74.15 per barrel WTI.
Expectations are high for this earnings season as are stock prices. Let’s see if Corporate America delivers.
Have a nice evening everyone.
