Friends
It was another somewhat quiet day of trading as market participants seem to want to wait and get a look at Thursday’s CPI number before making any new commitments. On the economic front we got the JOLTs or job openings number and it was as high as it’s ever been. There are nearly 9.3 million job openings in the U. S. right now. That is an amazing number.
As for today’s action, by the close the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 30 points to finish the day at 34,599. The S&P 500 was up a fraction to close at 4,227. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 43 points to close at 13,924. Gold was down $3 to trade at $1,895 per ounce, while oil was up $.98 to trade at $70.21 per barrel WTI.
Then there was a story about billionaires not paying any taxes. We already know this, their income is real low and they have armies of accountants and blah, blah, blah. But, is it just me or is it a bit disturbing the this ProPublica obtained documents which disclosed this information from persons unknown (I would assume inside the IRS?). Isn’t that a privacy issue? Slightly illegal? What do I know?
Have a nice evening everyone.
