Markets Show Resilience

May 24, 2021 | Market Commentary

Friends
After a wild weekend in the crypto world, the stock market was surprisingly calm at the open this morning. Stocks moved higher early and the market averages were able to hold onto the gains throughout the trading session.
By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 186 points to finish the day at 34,393. The S&P 500 was up 41 points to close at 4,197. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 190 points to close at 13,661. Gold was up $6 to trade at $1,882 per ounce, while oil was up $2.39 to trade at $65.97 per barrel WTI.
Perhaps the bulls are encouraged by the fact that despite cracks in the crypto world and several attempts by the bears to sell the market off, the market averages are still within striking distance of new highs. Even the Nasdaq, which saw the most selling over the last few months seems to have found its footing and remains nicely higher for the year-to-date. Let’s see how the week plays out.
Have a nice evening everyone.
