A Nice Bounce Off The Lows To Start The Year

Jan 2, 2019 | Market Commentary

Friends

We turned the page on 2018, but it appears volatility isn’t going away any time soon. After a 400 point Dow dip early in today’s trading session, stocks gathered themselves and posted small gains by the close. If you want to find a bit of a silver lining over recent trading sessions it is that we have rallied from early selloffs now for a few days. At least we’ve stopped closing on the lows of the day for now. Let’s keep it up.

For the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 18 points to close at 23,346. The S&P 500 was up 3 points to finish the day at 2,510. Gold was up $3 to trade at $1,284 per ounce, while oil was up $1.22 to trade at $46.63 per barrel WTI.

Of course, this is a short week for trading, but it’s always interesting to see how stocks fare in the first few days of trading. Are buyers looking for all clear signs to buy? Are sellers waiting for a bounce to continue to get out of more stocks? We have a jobs number coming up this Friday and then we’ll soon find ourselves in an earnings season. We’ve got a lot on our plate. Stay with us.

Have a nice evening everyone.
