It was a mixed and somewhat quiet day for stocks, as market participants gear up for a busy week (we get Google after the closing bell today) of earnings and a first look at 2nd quarter GDP.
For the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 13 points to close at 25,044. The S&P 500 was up 5 points to finish the day at 2,806. Gold was down $5 to trade at $1,225 per ounce, while oil was down $.47 to trade $67.79 per barrel WTI. On the fixed income front, the 10-year Treasury note spiked to 2.96%, a move up in yield that we haven’t seen in weeks.
Along with Google, this week we’ll see earnings from 3M, Kimberly-Clark, Lockheed Martin, Verizon, AT&T, Harley-Davidson, Amazon, Intel, Exxon Mobile, Chevron and Twitter- just to mention a few. So far, more than 80% of companies reporting are beating analysts estimates on the bottom line. Stay tuned for a busy week.
Have a nice evening everyone.
